20. Bethnal Green, London Underground Station, England
There are many stories of ghostly figures on the tracks, platforms and steps down into London’s Underground, which opened in the 1860s. Aside from transporting people on their daily commute, some stations were also used as air raid shelters during the second world war. Bethnal Green station, in London’s East End, was one of these. In March 1943 the volume of people entering the station was too much. As a result, 173 people died of crush injuries and asphyxiation. Reports of the sounds of women and children crying and sobbing have occurred since then.
