17. The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, Colorado

Another historic hotel in the Rocky Mountains, but this time on the United States side –  The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. An experience staying at this hotel was the inspiration for Stephen King’s creation of the horror story, The Shining. Opened in 1909 by Freelan Stanley, he and his wife Flora are still said to haunt the corridors.
