Although a deserted ghost town now, the hilltop town Craco in the south of Italy, has origins of being a settlement going back two thousand years. The town and its population suffered a landslide in the 1960s, flooding in the 1970s and then an earthquake in the 1980s. These natural events ultimately contributed to its complete abandonment.
