16. Magao Caves, Gansu Province
The Magao Caves contain an extensive collection of art and objects. The 500 odd caves, near Dunhuang in the Gansu Province, are predominantly a Buddhist site. However, due to their proximity to the Silk Road trade route, artifacts at the site include many from other religions and cultures. The artwork is on various types of textiles and media including paper and silk.
